Teams face must win situation to book DPL Super-Six berths

Sports Reporter

The remaining three matches of the 10th round encounter of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) will resume today at three different venues in Dhaka and its adjacent areas after a two-day break.
Of these matches, Mohammedan Sports Club will take on Kalabagan Krira Chakra at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium (KSOAS) in Fatullah, Legends of Rupganj will lock horns with Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club at BKSP-3 and Victoria Sporting Club will face-off Brothers Union at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur.
All the matches will start at 9:00am simultaneously.
The round robin phase of the DPL has been on the verge of the conclusion as just one round games will be left remained after today’s matches. No team yet to confirm their place in the Super Six barring Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club.
Defending runners-up confirmed their Super Six spot as the first team routing Gazi Group Cricketers (GGC) by five wickets at the SBNCS on Wednesday. With the win they went to the pole position leapfrogging Mohammedan Sporting Club.
Mohammedan also had the same opportunity to seal their Super Six spot but bottom-placed Cricket Coaching School (CCS) stunned them by 31 runs as per the D/L method in the ninth round clash.
Motijheel-based outfit is now languishing in second place with 12 points. They have chances to go into the next stage if they could win the match against Kalabagan Krira Chakra.
But the match will not be easy for them as Kalabagan became buoyed by the charismatic leadership of Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, who single-handedly triumphed Kalabagan in two matches against Legends of Rupganj and Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club amongst four victories to date.
Both Legends of Rupganj and Sheikh Jamal will seek to fetch the result in favour of them. Rupganj is now in fifth position with 11 points, while Jamal in eight with 10 points. Those who will lose the match they will have possibility to derail from the Super Six race.
Even a win in today’s match is crucial for both Victoria Sporting Club and Brothers Union. Victoria is now in fourth place with 11 points on the point table just after Prime Doleshwar, Mohammedan Sporting Club and Abahani Limited. If they win the match they will keep their hopes alive.
The same thing for Brothers Union if they could win the match, Gopibagh outfit will then be in the race but if they fail to win, then they will be derailed from the Super Six battle though they virtually went far from the spot after conceding defeat to Gazi Group Cricketers by 43 runs in the previous round.
