Prices of essential commodities have gone up in the markets of Jessore district ahead of Ramzan.
After visiting Jessore market, Paulbari market, rail station market and Jhumjhumpur market this correspondent found that prices of essentials have already become very high.
Some locals alleged that although deputy commissioner of Jessore Dr Humayun Kabir formed a 15-member market monitoring cell, prices of essentials have increased abnormally.
Wholesalers have increased the price of essentials, sources added.
According to sources, sugar is being sold at Tk 65 to 66 per kg although government fixed the price Tk 48 per kg. Soybean oil is being sold at Tk 85 to Tk90, price of which was Tk 70 to Tk 75 per kilogram.
Prices of other essential items such as eggs, beef, fish have also increase.
Green chilli is being sold at Tk 50 to Tk 60 per kg.Prices of tomato and garlic have increased as well.Chicken is selling at Tk 400 per kilogram.
Some locals alleged that though prices are going up abnormally, there is nobody to monitor it.
