RAJSHAHI: Speakers at a discussion in Rajshahi opined that political and social commitment has become an urgent need to combat illicit trafficking of drugs along with its trading, abusing and addiction to protect people and the young generation in particular, reports BSS. They said 80 per cent of the drug addicts belong to the age group of 15 to 30 in the country. So, there is no alternative to adopt measures of anti-smuggling of drugs. They made this observation while addressing the discussion styled ‘Role of Educational Institutions towards creating anti-drugs awareness’ at Nanking Darbar Hall on Thursday. District Administration and local office of the Department of Narcotics and Drugs Control organised the discussion. Commissioner of Rajshahi division Abdul Hannan and Additional Deputy Inspector General of Police of Rajshahi range Mashudur Rahman Bhuiyan addressed the discussion as chief guest and special guests respectively with Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Kazi Ashraf Uddin in the chair. Chief Guest Abdul Hannan said the law enforcement agencies alone isn't capable to combat the social disease but community participation coupled with family and social contribution is very important to this end. Forging social resistance has become indispensable to uproot the crime as it's being adjudged as a grave concern in the society.
