‘6-point of Bangabandhu brought independence of Bangladesh’

BSS

Vice-chancellor of Dhaka University AAMS Arefin Siddique yesterday said the 6-point charter of demand placed by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman brought independence of Bangladesh and its people, reports BSS He said, “The farsightedness, inner vision and political brilliance of Bangabandhu were so sharp that he could proclaim independence of Bangladesh by transforming the 6-point charter of demand (for autonomy of the then East Pakistan) into a one-point demand. Prof Siddique said this while speaking at a discussion at the National Press Club. Bangabandhu Parishad organised the discussion marking the historic 6-point Day with its general secretary and Awami League Advisory Council member Dr SA Malek in the chair. Vice-chancellor of Rajshahi University Mizan Uddin, vice-chancellor of National Poet Kazi Nazrul University in Mymensingh spoke at the discussion, among others.
Dr SA Malek said, "The 6-point demand was the turning point for emancipation of Bangalees. Bangabandhu placed the 6-point demand after thorough thought with diplomatic point of view taking into consideration the demands, sorrows and pains of the people of Bangla as well as freeing his people from all sorts of economic disparity once and for all. The demands containing the 6-point were very logical and acceptable. If the demands had been implemented, full autonomy for the people of the eastern part of (Pakistan) Bangla could be achieved and equality in the field of economy would be established."
