Forest officials in a drive arrested six fishermen along with 180 kg of fishes from the Pashur River under Chandpai Range of the Sundarbans on Thursday night for trespassing on the world’s largest mangrove forest and catching fish illegally, reports UNB from Khulna. The arrestees were identified as Jafar Peyada, Nasir, Dulal and Abul Fazal, residents of Taltali upazila of Barguna district; Mostafa Sheikh hailing from Khulna and Nazrul Gazi of Mongla upazila in Bagerhat district. Being tipped off that some fishermen were netting fish in the Pashur River without the permission of the Forest Department, forest officials conducted a drive there and arrested the fishermen, said Station Officer of Chandpai Range M Alauddin. They also seized around 180 kg of fishes of different spices from their fishing boat. Later, a case was filed under the Forest Act in this connection and the arrestees were sent to a court yesterday noon.
