Six people were killed in separate road accidents in five districts over the past two days. Our Jhenidah correspondent says: A college student was killed as a human hauler hit a motorcycle carrying him at Mandarbaria village in sadar upazila yesterday afternoon, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of sadar police station Biplab Kumar Nath said.
The deceased was identified as Al-Amin Hossain, 22, of the village.A case was filed. The body was sent to sadar hospital morgue for autopsy.
Our Tangail correspondent reports: A man was killed when a speeding truck knocked him down near Nahian Filling Station on Dhaka-Tangail highway in Basail upazila at 7am yesterday, said Mozammel Hossain, SI of Gorai highway police camp. The victim, a driver by profession, has been identified as Sujan Mia, 30, of Sultanpur village of Brahmanbaria district. The truck managed to flee away.
In Rajbari: A school girl was suffocated to death after her scarf, which was put around her neck, tangled into the wheels of the running auto-rickshaw she was travelling in at Kazibanda village in sadar upazila yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Asia Begum, 12, a student of class-VI of BM Ramdia High School in Baliakandi upazila. Nurul Islam, OC of Rajbari sadar police station, said the accident took place at around 11.30 am when Asia was going to her aunt’s house from school in an auto-rickshaw. When she reached Kaziband area her scarf twisted with the auto-rickshaw wheels. Locals rushed her to the Rajbari Sadar Hospital where the duty doctor declared her dead.
In Magura, Two people were killed and four others injured in Rautra area on the Magura-Jhenaidah highway under sadar upazila yesterday morning, reports BSS.
The deceased were identified as Jakaria, 25, of Sachani village and Samirul, 35, of Rajarampur village in sadar upazila.
Police said the accident occurred when a truck overturned on them in the area at about 8 am as its driver lost control over the steering, leaving Jakaria dead on the spot and five others injured.
The injured were rushed to Sadar Hospital where Samirul succumbed to his injuries yesterday afternoon.
Our Chapainawabganj correspondent adds: A policeman was killed and a sub-inspector injured as their motorcycle was hit by a truck in Folimari Beel area in Bholahat upazila on Saturday night. The deceased was identified as Golam Azam, 55, police constable at Bholahat police station.
The injured sub-inspector Shafiqul Islam, 40, was rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
OC of Bholahat police Abdul Mazid said the accident took place at around 8 pm when a truck hit their motorcycle while going to arrest an accused, leaving Golam Azam dead on the spot and injuring Shafiqul.
