Tk 724cr food grains damaged by rats: Matia

Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury yesterday told the Jatiya Sangsad that rats damaged paddy, rice and wheat worth Tk 723 crore, 72 lakh, seven thousand and 355 in the 2014-15 fiscal year, reports BSS.
The minister said this while replying to a query of treasury bench member M Abdul Latif during the question and answer session in the House with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
Matia said during the period the rats harmed 62,764 metric tonnes of rice worth about Tk 200 crore 84 lakh and 48 thousand, 29,660 metric tones of wheat valued about Tk 83 crore, 4 lakh and 80 thousand.
