A total of 340 posts of headmaster and 483 posts of assistant teachers in government primary schools of Jessore district have been lying vacant for a long time which is hampering education seriously.
Of the 1,285 government primary schools in eight upazilas of the district, only 362 have regular headmasters, said sources of the office of district primary education officer (DPEO).
In absence of regular headmasters, assistant teachers are working as in- charge headmasters at many primary schools. Most of them lack experience and their colleagues sometimes show reluctance to follow their instructions, said sources.
When contacted, Jessore district Primary Education Officer Taposhkumar Adhikary told this correspondent due to absence of headmasters education is seriously being hampered.
But very soon this problem will be solved. Promotion of assistant teacher is under processing, he said. Due to shortage of teachers, academic activities in the concerned schools are being hampered which is a great concern for the guardians of the students.
