Locals formed a human chain in Dinajpur town yesterday demanding arrest of two people including chairman and an assistant teacher of Ridge School, a private educational institution for violating a female student of class VII at school one month ago.
The human chain was formed under the banner of Sochetan Nari Samaj in front of Dinajpur Press Club around 11am.
Mother of the girl filed a case on May 22 accusing Waliur Rahman Nayan, 45, chairman of Ridge School and Topu Roy, 25, assistant teacher of the same school.
Speakers alleged at the human chain that police is yet to arrest the accused since the case was filed. Moreover, the accused persons are continuously threatening the victim and her mother and asking them to withdraw the case.
“We want immediate arrest of Nayan and Topu Roy’, said Sobi Sinha, president of Juba Mohila League of Dinajpur unit.
Speakers also criticised Samrit Saha Setu, principal of Ridge school for threatening the girl to expel from the school if she made the incident public.
‘Instead of punishing the teacher of his school, the principal wanted to punish my daughter’, said the mother. After the incident, her daughter attempted to take her life several times, alleged the mother.
Leaders of Sochetan Nari Samaj threatened for greater agitation if the accused are not arrested within seven days.
ATM Khalequzzaman, officer-in-charge of Dinajpur Sadar police station said they are investigating the incident.
