A man, accused of his wife’s murder, has died in police custody in Sarishabari Police Station of Jamalpur early yesterday, hours after he was arrested from Dhaka.. The deceased was identified as Hashem Ali, 35, a resident of Shimlapalli Tariapara under Sarishabari municipality. Billal Uddin, officer-in-charge of Sarishabari police station, said police caught Hashem from Dhaka’s Gulshan area on Sunday evening. He was taken to Jamalpur around midnight.
At around 4.30am Hashem was rushed to emergency department of Sarishabari upazila health complex. He died at about 4.35am, said resident medical officer of the hospital Momtaj Uddin.
“The cause of death could be confirmed after autopsy report,” he said.
Police quoting local people said Hashem’s wife Lucky Begum, 30, mother of a 3-year-old daughter, was found hanging from the ceiling at heir house at Shimlapalli Tariapara in the afternoon on April 14.
Police sent the body to Jamalpur General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
