A Bangladeshi anti-tobacco activist has won the ‘2016 Unbrand Your World Contest’ for preparing pictorial health warning messages for tobacco products, UNB reports. Limbika Maliwichi-Senganimalunje from Malawi won first prize in the contest, while Hasib Zaman of Bangladesh and Vijay Bhasker of India jointly won the runner-up prize, according to a media release of Johns Hopkins Institute for Global Tobacco Control. A total of 40 entries were submitted from 20 countries. In April, the Institute for Global Tobacco Control asked people to submit images of cigarette packs from their countries that used creative marketing to draw in users, and explain why this image supports the call for larger health warning labels or plain packaging. The images from Zaman show what a Benson & Hedges pack in Bangladesh would look like if it was in plain packaging, and how it would change both the appeal of the pack and the effectiveness of advocacy messages.
