Huge unauthorised drugs seized in Barisal

Department Drug Administration on Sunday in a drive seized huge quantity of unauthorised drugs from Nathullabad area of the city.
The court also fined and jailed sales depot in charge during the drive.
Bithi Rani Mandal, inspector of drug administration department of Barisal office, said unauthorised Holy Drugs Laboratories opened drug selling depot in the area a few days ago and was selling different types of drugs and supplying those to rural areas and quack doctors. The drug manufacturing license of Holy Drugs Laboratories company was cancelled earlier by the Department Drug Administration, she added.
On the basis of the information of Department Drug Administration accompanied by law enforcing agencies raided the drug depot of Holy Drugs Laboratories in the area on Sunday noon.
The team after searching the depot
of the Holy Drugs Laboratories from Nathullabad area of the city seized a huge quantity of unauthorised drugs worth about Tk 15 lakh, the sources added.
Reazul Islam, depot in charge of the Holy Drugs Laboratories, Miraz Hossain, store keeper and Nazrul Islam, cashier of the depot were detained during the raid, the source further added.
The detained persons were placed before a mobile court in the city led by Sukhomoy Sarkar, magistrate of district administration in Barisal on Sunday afternoon.
Then the court fined Reazul Islam, the depot in charge of Holy Drugs Laboratories, Tk 50,000 and sentenced him to 10-day imprisonment.
Other two of the detained staff of the depots of the laboratories were, however, released, the drug administration official said.
