A Dhaka court yesterday fixed today for hearing a petition submitted for granting remand of detained BNP Assistant Joint Secretary Aslam Chowdhury in a sedition case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Maruf Hossain fixed the date.
Earlier in the day, Detective Branch Inspector Fazlul Haque, also the investigation officer of the case produced the BNP leader before the court seeking a 10-day remand plea for grilling him in connection with the sedition case filed with Gulshan police on May 26.
According to the court sources, Magistrate Maruf Hossain said, it is very tough to take decision on the remand plea. I shall not take such decision for which the High Court may issue an order against me. Investigators also sought court permission to interrogate Aslam in two arson cases for 10 days each. The cases were filed at Motijheel and Lalbagh police stations. Metropolitan magistrates Golam Nabi and Md Mazharul Islam separately fixed June 6 to hear the remand pleas.
Government accused BNP leader for hatching conspiracy with Israel's Likud Party and its intelligence agency Mossad to oust the government.
