With the government having its eye on the vote bank and insisting students get reserved seats in professional colleges without being part of any merit process, I can well imagine what will happen in a few years time:
Patient goes into doctor's clinic.
"What's wrong?" the doctor asks.
"I have a strange pain in my left side doctor!"
"I am sorry," says the doctor, "I don't know much about aches and pains try the doctor down the road or better still go down to a private hospital!"
"I thought you were a medical doctor, at least that's what your board says," says the patient perplexed.
"Yes, I am one, but never did well in anatomy. Never cared for the subject. As a matter of fact we went on strike every time the professor came to the lecture hall until he agreed to drop the subject from the course. We managed to get biology dropped also! Oh it was such fun those college days! Such fun!"
"But if you didn't like anatomy or biology why did you go to medical school?"
"There was this reservation quota; so I thought what the hell, might as well have a Dr in front of my name!"
A little farther away in a courthouse a man is being tried for murder. The prosecution turns to the judge and asks that he gets the death penalty.
"Can he do that?" asks the defendant.
"Who the hell knows," says the lawyer with a chuckle.
"But you're a lawyer don't you know what the law says?"
"Listen," says the lawyer, "I went to law college just because I wanted to have a nice time, and I found there were pretty girls in the class, matter of fact I had a fantastic affair with a Miss India look alike! We had such a roaring time I had no time to attend classes, who wants to spend time with all those law books?"
"If I lose can I appeal?"
"What's an appeal?"
And somewhere in Mumbai where a huge company merger is about to take place the chairman of the company looks at his new acquisition; an IIM student from one of the prestigious campuses for which he had agreed to pay a crore a year:
"Good takeover huh son?" he asked the just out college student with a smile.
"What's a take over sir?"
"What's a takeover?"
"Is it like a makeover?"
"You never learned about takeovers at your IIM?"
"Could never understand what the professors were saying so if you'll explain it to me, I'll take some notes now sir..!"
Like I said, with the government eyeing the OBC vote bank and insisting students get reserved seats you can well imagine what's going to happen soon..!
