Men’s Health is as complex as women’s health. When we consider men’s health we often assume that they need to visit their doctors only if they get sick. However, men need to have regular health checks too. Men’s health mostly revolves round the reproductive health. Main disorders of men’s reporductive system constitute penile injury and inflammation, growths, etc. prostatic hyperplasia, prostatic cancer, prostatitis, testicular torsion, testicular cancer, inguinal hernia and impotence etc. Regular medical check-ups help you (men) to stay healthy and to pick up early warning signs of disease or illness. Diseases such as cardiovascular (heart) disease, diabetes and some cancers that men are prone to develop can often be picked up in their early stages, when treatment outcomes may be more successful.
Diabetes is a dread disease and one should be careful about it and should periodically undergo blood sugar level tests- fasting and two hours after breakfast. This should be a regular exercise for some one with history of diabetes in his family.
Men also should undergo screening test for prostate cancer. As a part of your yearly medical check up you may undertake the prostate specific antigen blood (PSA) test. If you are over 50, an annual digital prostate examination may be recommended.
Osteoporosis is a disease that causes thinning of the bones. Osteoporosis can affect men as well as women.
Our cover this week is Men’s Health. We have tried to include a few useful articles and write ups in this issue.
