2 held with 12 gold bars in Satkhira
Satkhira: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested two alleged smugglers, including a member of union parishad, along with 12 gold bars from Shikri Mor in Boikari bordering area of Sadar upazila on Friday night, reports UNB.
The arrestees were identified as Ataur Rahman, 45, son of late Ruhul Amin alias Bohel Sarder, and Prodip Kumar Mondal, 42, son of Gopal Mondal, both residents of Boikari village of the upazila. Ataur is a member of 3 no ward of Boikari union and also general secretary of the same union unit of Awami League.
Lieutenant Colonel Arman Hossain, commanding officer of Satkhira BGB Battalion-38, said tipped off, a team of the border force conducted a drive in the area and intercepted a motorcycle carrying the duo at about 10:30pm. Later, BGB members recovered 12 gold bars after searching their bodies.
The market value of the gold bars would be around Tk57.20 lakh. A case was filed in this connection.
Brick kiln worker dies in road crash
MAGURA: A brick kiln worker was killed in a road accident at Raigram village in Sadar upazila of the district yesterday morning, reports BSS.
The deceased was Lalon, 22, son of Taibur Rahman, a resident of Bil-Akchhi village of the upazila. Police said the accident occurred when a truck, carrying Lalon, turned turtle in the area as its driver lost control over the steering, leaving him injured.
Locals sent Lalon to Magura Sadar Hospital where
he succumbed to his injuries. A case was filed in this connection.
Body recovered in C’nawabganj
CHAPAINAWABGANJ: Police recovered the body of an unidentified woman from Kajla area under Nachole upazila of the district on Friday night, reports BSS.
Being informed, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body near Golabari-Rohonpur Railway Station of the area.
Later, the body was sent to Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy yesterday morning.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nachole Thana Fasir Uddin said the identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
2 drug peddlers held in Gomostapur
CHAPAINAWABGANJ: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-5 conducted a raid in Shibrampur village under Gomostapur upazila of the district on Friday evening and arrested two drug peddlers with 195 bottles of phensidyl and 16 bottles of foreign liquor.
The arrested were Kawsar Ali, 33, son of late Shamsher Ali Master and Sajeman Ali, 70, son of late Abul Hossain.
Both of them hailed from Chandana village under Nachole upazila of the district. They were handed over to Gomostapur Thana.
