Safe motherhood for healthy babies stressed

Health experts at a post-rally discussion have laid emphasis on ensuring safe motherhood for healthy new-born babies through proper nursing of all expecting mothers during pregnancy, planned birth and safe delivery, reports BSS from Rangpur.
The district health administration in association with different NGOs organised the discussion at Sadar Upazila Health Complex auditorium in Nilphamari district town in observance of the National Safe Motherhood Day-2016 yesterday.
Earlier, hundreds of the government and NGO officials, physicians, health workers and activists, nurses, mothers, public representatives, teachers, students, women community leaders, socio-cultural activists and prominent persons participated in the rally.
Civil Surgeon of Nilphamari Dr Abdur Rashid attended the discussion as the chief guest with Sadar Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Sirajul Islam in the chair.
Deputy Director of the Department of Family Planning Department of Nilphamari Afroza Begum, Medical Officer Dr Moniruzzaman Moni, District Health Education Officer Abdul Kader Sohel, addressed, among others.
In their speeches, the health experts put importance on coordinated efforts to ensure safe motherhood, healthy pregnancy period and safe delivery for building a healthier nation through further reducing maternal and neonatal deaths.
The chief guest highly lauded the government efforts for providing health services at the union and wards to improve the health condition of mothers and babies and asked for sensitising people about essence for ensuring sound health of mothers and infants.
“Safe pregnancy, delivery and motherhood for pregnant women must be ensured at the hospitals, health complexes and other places for achieving the set Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by the nation at the earliest possible time.
