Minister for Public Administration and General Secretary of Awami League Syed Ashraful Islam yesterday said the unity of greater Mymensingh district will remain intact though the Mymensingh division is constituted with only four districts, reports BSS. "Cultural bond can never be split. The culture, custom and heritage in four districts of Mymensingh division and the districts of Kishoreganj and Tangail are the same," he said speaking as the chief guest at a discussion meeting organised by Greater Mymensingh Journalists Association in the capital.
The discussion was held at National Press Club auditorium marking the 229th anniversary of greater Mymensingh district. "I believe that the united Mymensingh will continue to exist. The new division will not affect it," he said. Presided over by journalist and Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha Governing Board Chairman Rahat Khan, the meeting was addressed by Leader of the Opposition in Parliament and Jatiya Party Co-chairman Begum Rawshan Ershad as inaugural speaker. The meeting was addressed as special guests by Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports Arif Khan Joy, Jatiya Press Club President M Shafiqur Rahman. Rawshan Ershad said about six crore people of the country live in greater Mymensingh. Referring to the government's plan to set up 100 economic zones in the country, she said one of the zones should be in Mymensingh region. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given her assurances in this regard, she added.
