Two covered vans detained
Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) early yesterday detained two covered vans laden with plastic granules and cloths imported under bond facilities (duty free) declaring to export from city’s city gate area.
The price of the plastic and cloths were estimated as Tk2 crore. The goods were imported in duty free under bond facilities to export but the companies were tried to sell the goods in open market without exporting.  Acting on-tip off we have detained the Dhaka-bound covered vans from city gate area, said     Shamimur Rahman, deputy director of CIID.

US embassy holiday today
The US Embassy in Dhaka, including its consular section, will remain closed on Sunday, on the occasion of Memorial Day, an American national holiday.
The American Centre with the Archer K. Blood American Centre Library and the Education USA Student Advising Centre will also remain closed.
Emergency services for American citizens, however, will be available, said a press release yesterday.

2 arrested with yaba       
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) early on Friday in a drive in Cheragi Phar area under Kotwali police station in Chittagong arrested two youths along with 550 pieces of contraband yaba tablets.
The arrestees were identified as Mithu Shil Shipon, 25, son of Junu Chandra Shil, hailing from Shikalbaha of Karnaphuli police station and Soumitra Chowdhury, 26, son of Pradip Chowdhury hailing from Modhom Nolua of Satkania upazila in Chittagong. Acting on trip-off a team of Rab-7 detained them along with 550 pieces of contraband yaba tablets and cash Tk2, 93,000, said a press release sent by Rab-7.

Bicycle rally held in capital
The Bondhu Foundation in association with Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC), Practical Action Bangladesh, FANSA Bangladesh and Unnayan Shahojogy Team (UST) yesterday organised a programmes marking Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) Day in observance of Global Menstrual Hygiene Day  with a global theme “Menstruation Matters to Everyone, Every where". The main slogan was “Break the Silence, Let’s talk about Menstruation”, says a press release.
At the beginning of the programme the guests requested media to highlight the MHM issues in media. Similarly they requested the government to allocate budget for construction of girls friendly toilets in institutions and government offices. A bicycle rally with banner, festoon, caps, T-shirt with MHM messages passed through main roads from the National Press Club to Dhaka University.  Adolescent girls of different universities, teachers, representatives from Practical Action Bangladesh, Bondhu Foundation, FANSA Bangladesh and Unnayan Shahojogy Team (UST) and ADHNIK were participated in the rally.   

Six hurt in fire in Barisal
At least six workers others injured and properties worth Taka several lakh were damaged in a devastating fire at the factory of Opsonin Pharma Ltd at Bagura road area of the Barisal city  yesterday.
Police and fire service sources said that the fire originated from short circuit in third floor of the factory attached by the principal office at 9:30am yesterday morning. Huge electrical materials including one AC and cables were damaged during the fire. Five units of the Barisal fire service able to control the fire at 10:30AM after one hour. Md Alauddin, station officer of Barisal fire service, said a gas cylinder also blasted during the fire.
Meanwhile, same fire incident occurred on March 30, last year damaged production materials worth about Taka 50 lakh. One worker died and other five were injured during the incident.
