Dr Aminul Islam elected President of Bangladesh Academy of Sciences
Professor Emeritus Dr Aminul Islam, Daffodil International University was elected as the president of the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS) council for the term 2016-2018 among the distinguished scientists and technologists of the country, says a press release.
Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS), the premier scientific body of the country came into being as a non-political, non-governmental organisation made up of Fellows elected from among the distinguished scientists and technologists of the country. Dr M Qudrat-i- Khoda was the first president of the Academy. The number of fellows at present including the Foundation Fellows is 81.
AIUB joins IUAP semi-annual meeting
The American International University Bangladesh (AIUB) participated in the International Association of Universities Presidents (IAUP) semi-annual meeting 2016, held from the May 19 to 21 at the University of Alcala (UAH) in Madrid, Spain, says a press release. The 3-day programme was attended by the Vice-chancellor, Dr Carmen Z Lamagna, along with the chairman and vice-president of International Affairs & Public Relations, Ishtiaque Abedin, and the special assistant of the vice- chancellor’s office and the office of student affairs, Ms. Shama Islam.
Orientation on basic understanding of
mental health held at NSU
An orientation programme on mental health was held at North South University (NSU) in the capital recently, says a press release.
The programme was organised conjointly by the proctor’s office and the student counseling centre. The objective of the programme was to make students familiarise on mental health aspect and also in getting solutions from respective mental health professionals. The student counselors highlighted their office not only serve psychologically disturbed students, but also offer services through some prevention and developmental programme as well by organising workshops on different topics such as stress management, expressing anger, non violent communication, drug management, building self confidence etc.
Azim Uddin Ahmed, chairman of disciplinary committee and Board of Trustee, Member, NSU, and Professor Atiqul Islam, Vice Chancellor, NSU attended the programme as chief guest and special guest respectively. Syed Kamrul Islam, Proctor, NSU chaired the session.
KUET on summer, Ramadan and Eid vacation
KHULNA: The academic and administrative offices of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) will remain closed from today to July 11 due to summer vacation, Ramadan, Shab-e-Kadar, Jumatul Bida and Eid-ul-Fitr, said a KUET press release on Saturday. The classes and examinations of the university would remain suspended while important official activities will continue during the vacation. Official activities of the university will resume on July 11 after the vacation, press release added.
