Rising Pune Supergiants all-rounder Rajat Bhatia came here in Bangladesh to play Dhaka Premier League (DPL) for Abahani Limited for the fourth time. He had played for the domestic powerhouse in three straight seasons spanning from 2010-12.
This time he arrived in Dhaka before the eighth round games while Abahani is languishing in ninth place following three defeats, which fell them under huge pressure. They’ve three matches in hands, where they need to win each of them to move into the Super Six stage.
Bhatia, hailed from Delhi just after his IPL stint, helped Abahani get back to the winning-way by striking 90 in the match, which was his 100th List-A match. He poured his sweat by practicing with willow and cherry with the entire contingent at National Cricket Academy yesterday.
After the practice session, Bhatia shared some moments with this reporter. He eulogised the development of Bangladesh domestic cricket, stating that they are in proper way and should continue doing this.
“This is my fourth time in Bangladesh. Last time I played for Abahani in 2012,” said Rajat Bhatia, who came after Manoj Tiwary, Manvinder Bisla and Uday Kaul.
“Now we’re played in much discipline. They’ve everything under control. It’s a list-A cricket. Everything comes down in record. That’s good. It’s been improved a lot,” Bhatia told The Independent.
“Earlier this cricket was never used it as a list-A cricket but it is now a List-A cricket. It has improved. Cricket looks much more in a proper way. I feel that they should continue doing this,” he added.
He tipped the heat as dangerous for players especially fast bowlers and said that they should give rest before every game.
“It was very hot and humid. But as per as cricket is concerned, it’s not very good for fast-bowlers. Chances of injuries are more. Bangladesh having a lot of fast bowlers and all the fast bowlers are playing in this league,” he said.
“I feel that such heat is dangerous for fast bowlers because they lose a lot of energy. By the time they will play for one day or Test, they could give their hundred percent whether they’re giving sixty percent. They should be given rest in this league I feel,” he opined.
Bhatia, who will leave Dhaka for Delhi after the next two matches as he’ll go England for County, played in four different IPL teams including Kolkata Knight Riders.
“IPL is different and it is one day games. I played with Shakib for three years. He is coming tomorrow for playing. It is good for the team. Let’s hope we’ll play and win tomorrow,” the former KKR player said about Shakib.
The 36-year-old all-rounder said about Mustafizur Rahman, “I’m not playing with him. I don’t play match against him. So, I don’t know. But he is a good bowler definitely. He has done well in IPL. I wish him luck for the future.”
