Mohammed Hassan Meah set new record on his way to be the fastest boy and Sonya Akhter became the fastest girl in the 32nd Haji Mohammed Nurul Islam Smiriti National Junior Athletics Championship yesterday.
Held at the Bangabandhu National Stadium track, Hassan took 10:60 to reach the touch-line followed by Sultan Sanjid of Noakhali District with 11:40 seconds while Sonya Akhter also stood first with the time of 12.55, followed by her BKSP fellow athlete Rupa Khatun 12:70.
Hassan Meah, who tried last year in the same age group, could win the silver and this time he won the gold with record timing in his reaction immediate after finish the run said, “It was good feeling to be first.”
Hassan is very much grateful to Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Pratisthan (BKSP) to become an athlete.
“BKSP made me athlete, so I am grateful to BKSP. My target is to be a big athlete. I like Assafa Powel very much,” he said.
Sonya Akhter, who took 12.55 seconds to win the gold medal said that she was confident as she was second in the last time competition.
“I had confident to be first, though I was second in the last year and next target is the SA Games.
