‘20th Young Artist Fine Arts Exhibition’ begins at Shilpakala today

A fortnight-long fine arts exhibition titled ‘20th Young Artist Fine Arts Exhibition 2016’ will begin today at the National Art Plaza of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), Segun Bagicha in the city.
With the aim of showcasing the artworks by the young artists, like the previous years, the Fine Arts Department of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy has arranged the 15-day biennial exhibition.
Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor will inaugurate the exhibition today, while Speaker of the Parliament Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury will attend the ceremony as chief guest at the National Arts Plaza of BSA. Presided over by BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky, Cultural Affairs Ministry Begum Akhtary Momtaz and noted artist Rafiqun Nabi will be present as special guests.
Initially, a total of 464 Bangladeshi young artists submitted 1020 artworks in four categories, such as painting, print, sculpture and installation. A selection committee, consisting of artist Dr Mohammad Iqbal, artist Atiya Islam Anne and artist Nasimun Khabir, primarily selected 227 artworks by 188 artists, which will be put on display in the exhibition.
Like previous year, one young artist, who has been selected from all categories by the jury will be bestowed with ‘Young Artist Fine Arts Award’. The best awardees will receive a gold medal and 1 lac taka. Besides, best three others from three categories will be awarded and four honourary awards will also be distributed.
The exhibition will remain open to all everyday from 11am to 8pm, until June 9 (3pm to 8pm on Friday), and from 11 am to 6pm during Ramzan.
To disclose the detail information about the exhibition and award ceremony, a press conference was held at the Seminar Room of National Art Plaza on Tuesday, where BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky, Director of Fine Arts Department of BSA Utpal Kumar Das and Director of Production Department Iqbal Hossain were present among others.
