A court here yesterday convicted three people and sentenced them to death for killing a Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leader in 2013, reports UNB from Nilphamari.
The condemned convicts are Kamruzzaman Sebu, 32, son of Abdul Hakim Muhuri of Bakdokra village in Domar upazila, Sirajul Islam Nader, 46, son of late Ansar Ali Mandal and Buddhodeb Roy Boidda, son of Prasanno Kumar Roy of Lalmonirhat district.
Among them, Nader and Boidda tried in absentia.
According to the prosecution, Rakibul Hasan Pappu, joint convener of Domar Government College unit Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and son of Rezaul Karim of Chikonmati area in Domar upazila, was hacked to death by the convicts over previous enmity on July 17, 2013.
Makhdumul Haq Chanu, uncle of the victim, filed a case against the trio on the following day.
After examining the records and witnesses, Additional District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Mahbubul Alam pronounced the verdict.
