Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Bir Bikram, yesterday said the government will take all necessary steps to remove sufferings of cyclone victims, reports Bhola.
“No people will face starvation and the cyclone-hit roads and houses will be reconstructed within the shortest possible time,” he said this while visiting the cyclone ‘Roanu’ affected areas in Bhola yesterday.
The minister added: “The victims will reside in the cyclone centers where the government will ensure their foods until their houses are reconstructed.”
According to the Disaster Management and Relief Directorate, 23 people were killed and many injured in the country. The deaths were reported from Kutubdia in Cox’s Bazar, Sitakunda in Chittagong, Bhola, Noakhali, Patuakhali and Laxmipur.
The minister visited the different areas of Tazumuddin upazila and later held meetings with the representatives of Disaster Management Committees of Tazumuddin Lalmohan and Borhanuddin upazilas. Maya also enquired about the wellbeing of the affected people there.
Urging mass people specially the affluent citizens to stand by the side the Roanu victim, the disaster minister also said the government will provide financial supports and distribute relief goods among the victims as per the requirements.
Local lawmaker Ali Azam Mukul, Director General of the Department of Disaster Management Riaz Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner Selim Uddin, Lalmohan Upazila Chairman Gias Uddin and Tazumuddin Upazila Chairman Mohammad Jasim, among others, accompanied the minister.
