Community policing reduces social crimes: Police officials

The extent of social crimes has been reducing in recent times following visible effectiveness of the community policing activities involving the common people in the district, reports BSS.
Acting Superintendent of Police Abdullah Al Faruk disclosed the information at a rally against drug abuse, terrorism, militancy and corruption held at Iswarpur Matherhat village under Chandanpat union in Sadar upazila as the chief guest on Tuesday night.
The Ward No-3 unit of Community Policing of Chandanpat union organised the rally with President of Sadar upazila unit of Community Policing Agriculturist Abdul Wahab Mian in the chair. Assistant Superintendent of Police Ataur Rahman, Member Secretary of Rangpur divisional and district units of Community Policing Shushanto Bhowmick and Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Thana ABM Zahidul Islam addressed as special guests.
Being convinced by local community policing activists, five notorious dacoits and thieves Asad, Zamshed, Ershadul, Sahed Ali and Faruk of the area openly vowed in the rally for leaving the path of crimes to begin new life.
The speakers highly lauded the improving law and order situation in Chandanpat union and suggested for further strengthening activities of the community policing for ensuring sustainable peace and tranquility in the society.
Shushanto Bhowmick called upon members of the community policing for engaging spontaneous efforts involving the common people and extending full cooperation to the police forces in preventing drug abuse, terrorism, militancy and corruption.
