CHITTAGONG: Customs authority detained two officials of an exporting agency with nearly 60 kilograms of turtle meat at Chittagong Shah Amanat International Airport yesterday, reports BSS.
The detainees were identified as Ranjit Paul and Ripon Dey, employees of the exporting agency ‘GR Trading’.
Fifty-nine kilograms and 500 grams of meats were recovered in two cartons from the cargo section of the airport while the exporting organisation was exporting those in favour of ‘Ricky Trading Company’ in Hong Kong, said Sohel Rana, assistant commissioner of Chittagong Customs.
“Officials of the Wildlife Department primarily identified the meats to be turtle meats”, Rana said adding that it would be confirmed after a laboratory test. Customs sources said the detainees were handed over to the Wildlife Department and necessary actions would be taken after getting the laboratory test report.
