Indian envoy visits Jaipur Foot Camp in capital

High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Harsh Vardhan Shringla visited limb fitment camp at the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) in the capital yesterday, a special camp that provides disabled people with artificial limbs.
Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti (Jaipur Foot) organised the month long camp (from May 8 – June 3) in collaboration with NITOR and Moyeen Foundation of Bangladesh.
A team of 15 experts from BMVSS have been conducting the camp.
Till now around 600 people from all parts of Bangladesh have been supplied with artificial limbs from the camp.
Speaking on the occasion, the High Commissioner highlighted significant roles of BMVSS in providing a new lease of life to amputees in Bangladesh and other parts of the world.
“This is a service to humanity and I am extremely thankful to the Moyeen Foundation for supporting the noble cause. BMVSS has so far benefited over 1.45 million disabled all around the globe.
The High Commission of India would be happy to support the initiatives for helping disabled people around the world,” said Harsh Vardhan Shringla.
BMVSS is a non-governmental institution helping the physically challenged, particularly the financially week and under-privileged, by providing artificial limbs and other rehabilitation aids free of cost.
Founded by DR Mehta in 1975, BMVSS is the world’s largest organisation for the disabled.
BMVSS has 23 branches in India and organises on-site field camps in India and abroad to help patients who have physical and financial difficulty.
BMVSS has conducted more than 50 such camps in 26 countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America. The last camp, held in Dhaka in June 2015, benefited 625 amputees.
