Chittagong: Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor yesterday said a Nazrul Memorial Centre will be established in the district to preserve the memories of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam as per the prime minister’s order, reports UNB.
He said this while addressing a function held in front of MA Aziz Stadium in the port city to mark the 117th birth anniversary of Nazrul. The ministry and the district administration have taken up a three-day programme in the port city to celebrate the birth anniversary of the National Poet.
“We are regenerated by the writings of poet Nazrul who promoted equality. He is the poet of independence, liberation and equality. As per the prime minister’s order, Nazrul Memorial Centre will be set up in Chittagong under the supervision of the Nazrul Institute to preserve the memories of the poet,” said the minister in his speech as the chief guest of the inaugural programme.
Though Bangladesh has become independent, the country is yet to be completely liberated from the spell of evil forces while poet Nazrul is still a part of all the movements amid all the problems, against all the doubts, he added.
Azaduzzaman Noor also conveyed his condolence for the loss of lives during cyclone Roanu which battered the coastal areas of the country on May 21.
