The High Court yesterday issued a rule seeking an explanation why a Satkhira man, Javed Ali, will not be compensated with 20 lakh for suffering 13 years in jail even after his acquittal from a murder case, reports UNB. The HC bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir issued the rule following a writ petition filed by a rights group, Children Charity Bangladesh Foundation. The secretaries of the home and law ministries, the inspector general of prison and former additional sessions’ judge of Satkhira Tapos Kumar and jail super of Satkhira Jail have been made respondents to the rule. On March 1, 2000, Javed was sentenced to life term jail imprisonment for reportedly poisoning his daughter to death. He was, however, acquitted by the High Court in 2003 following an appeal.
