The intensive training programme of BCB’s High Performance (HP) for the 2016 season will delay for over one month to kick off. It’ll now start on July after the end of the Eid-ul-Fitr.
With the target of having prepared the best players in international cricket, the programme was re-launched after a long hiatus in 2015. It has three main branches to cater the current crop of national team members, a potential pipeline of young talent as future prospects for the national colours.
HP authorities have started enlisting players for the next campaign on the basis of categorisation. The list will be finalised after the conclusion of the ongoing Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League.
It is learnt that former Bangladesh head coach Stuart Law, West Indian legendary fast bowler Curtly Ambrose, Sri Lanka off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan, Pakistan off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq have showed their keen interest to work here for the short-term programme. But who have confirmed to work in Bangladesh are yet to know or disclose their names by the board or HP authority.
HP chairman and BCB vice president Mahbub Anam in this regard said that the HP’s core programme will be held after the Eid vacation.
“The programme was scheduled to embark on June 1. But we could not begin it because of the unavailability of the players, who are now performing in the Dhaka Premier League. They will be freed after the Eid and then we’ll start the programme,” said Mahbub Anam.
“We have a meeting on May 26. Hopefully we could finalise all the matter including appointment of coaching staffs, fixture and schedule of the programme and players’ enlistments in that meeting,” Anam told The Independent.
