Five fake detectives held
Police in an overnight drive arrested five fake members of Detective Branch (DB) of police with a foreign-made pistol, handcuffs, jackets and a private car from the Dewsur Road under Keraniganj Model Police Station in capital, reports BSS.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of DB Wahiduzzaman Mollah confirmed it.
The detainees used to cheat people and extract money impersonating them as the members of detectives. They also use a private car (Dhaka Metro Ga 12-5856) with a sticker of Dhaka Zilla DB on it.
The detainees were Hannan, 48, Badol, 45, Liton, 32, Mostafa, 50, and Nurul Islam, 30.
The OC said they are also accused in several criminal cases in different police stations in the capital.
6 members of doping gang held
Detective Branch (DB) of police on Monday night arrested six operatives of an oggayan (doping gang) party from the capitals Sadarghat Launch Terminal under Kotwali Thana area.
The arrested were identified as M Hasan Chowdhury, alias Don, M Mithu Bepari alias Mithu, M Salim alias Lotif, M Kuddus Mollah alias Shajib, Abul Kashem and M Shahidul Islam alias Nazrul. A team of DB police arrested them along with narcotic tablets and halwa at the area around 8.30pm on Monday, a DMP press release said yesterday.
Man found dead in Ctg
A man was found dead beside a culvert in Barua Para in Chandnaish upazila in Chittagong on Monday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Nasir Uddin, 55, son of Sirajul Mostofa, a resident of Haji Para area of the upazila.
Gazi Md Sakhawat Hossain, officer-in-charge of Chandnaish Police Station, said Nasir went out of the house on Sunday night and remained traceless since.
Later locals noticed his body, with the throat slashed, lying in the area and informed police next morning.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
One held with yaba in Barisal
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-8 arrested a young man Javed Khalifa,19, from Gournadi bus stand area Monday afternoon and recovered 81 pieces of yaba tablets from his possession.
On secret information, members of RAB during its mobile duty arrested a young man Javed Khalifa from Gournadi upazila bus stand area at about 1.45 pm and recovered yaba tablets from his possession. A case was filed with Gournadi Thana in this connection.
One killed by thunderbolt
Taoshin Sikdar (12), a minor boy was killed on the spot when a thunderbolt struck on his house yesterday afternoon at about 4pm at Sikdarpara area of Barisal city.
Local source and police confirmed the news and said the lighting followed by heavy rainfall over the area. At that time the incident occurred.
Discussion on Liberation War
A discussion titled Rangpurer Muktijoddho and Carmichael College was held at Rangpur Town Hall yesterday. Rangpu Unnayan Somonoy Parishad organised the event.
Chowdhury Khalequzzaman, Convenor, Rangpur Unnyan Somonnoy Parishad chaired the programme. Principal Foqrul Anam Benzu conducted the programme.
