2 get life term for murder

A Chittagong court yesterday sentenced two people to life term imprisonment for killing a man at Satkania in Chittagong in 2005.
Sayeda Hosne Ara, Judge of Chittagong Divisional Public Safety Tribunal handed down the verdict. The court also acquitted two other people as the allegations brought against them were not proven, said court sources.
The convicted are -- Reazaul Karim Liton and his brother Mofizul Islam. Among them Mofizul is behind the bars and Liton has remained absconding. The acquitted two people are Azadual Alam Azad and Abul Kalam.
The court sentenced the convicted to life term imprisonment each as the allegations against them have been proven and also acquitted two others from allegation, said advocate Jahangir Alam, Special public prosecutor (PP) of Chittagong Divisional Public Safety Tribunal. According to prosecution, Hafez Didarul Alam, son of freedom fighter Mahamudur Rahman, was a an employee of ‘Bhai Bhai Cloth Store’ of Keranihat of Satkania in Chittagong and the owners of the shop were Rezaul Karim Liton, Azadul Alam Azad, Zafar and Mofizul Islam.
On November 2005, the shop owner informed Hafez Didarul Alam’s father that his son died suddenly of vomiting. Later, victim’s father filed a case and after getting the autopsy report, police found that Didarul had been allegedly beaten to death, said court sources.
Public Prosecutor Jahangir Alam said Didarul Alam and daughter of the one shop owners (Zafar) had engaged in a relationship. Over the incident, Reazaul and Mofizul younger brothers Zafar had beaten Didarul to death.
After examining 24 prosecution witnesses and records, the court handed down the judgment, added the PP.
