Candidates pledge for welfare-oriented UPs

Chairmen candidates for the upcoming election in Sardah Union Parishad under Charghat Upazila in the district have pledged to turn their respective union parishad into a welfare oriented institution to boost development activities in the region, reports BSS.
They also promised to put in their best efforts to improve the administration besides uplifting living and livelihood condition of their voters through need-oriented projects.
The three chairmen candidates—Hasanuzzaman Madhu (Awami League), Jobaidul Islam Badi (Independent) and Matiur Rahman Tapan (Independent) --were speaking at a programme at Jhikra Govt. Primary School Playground ahead of the election on Sunday.
Local unit of Sushasoner Jonya Nagorik (SUJON) organized the event in association with Peoples against Violence and Peace Pressure Group. While speaking, the candidates sought votes in favour of their respective symbols. They also pledged to accept people’s verdict in the ensuing municipality polls and work together with the people for an improved municipality.
Besides, they vowed to eradicate drug addiction, child marriage, ensure child education, and reduce dropout in primary education.
Hundreds of enthusiastic people including men, women and youths joined the programme and raised volley of questions relating to their existing suffering and their development to the chairmen aspirants in the local government elections.
The candidates also made commitment that they will work for transforming the local government institution into corruption-free, effective and welfare- oriented ones alongside ensuring transparency and accountability in every sector.
With SUJON local unit president Altaf Hossain in the chair, General Secretary Md Kamruzzaman and local elite Saiful Islam spoke on the occasion. SUJON Area Coordinator Subrata Kumar Paul moderated the discussion.
