Inu for eliminating militancy
Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu on Sunday said militancy, fundamentalism and corruption would have to be eliminated from society to get benefits of democracy. “The weed of politicisation and corruption would have to be uprooted to harvest the benefits of development,” he said at the closing ceremony of training exercise-2016-17 of Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC) at Baipail, Ashulia, Savar.
He urged the trainees to take a vow to destroy militancy and have a dream of being the architect of building a ‘Sonar Bangla.’ The minister inspected the parade and took the salute. Four hundred fifty cadets participated in the training.
BNCC Director General Big. Gen. SM Ferdous and other officials were present on the occasion.
Woman commits ‘suicide’
A woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her residence in Char Khejurbagh area of Dakshin Keraniganj upazila on Sunday night. The deceased was identified as Hamida Begum, 42, wife of Montu Dhali, a resident of the area.
They used live in a rented house of Mohammad Nazrul in the area. Mohammad Rajib Khan, sub-inspector of Dakhshin Keraniganj Police Station, said Hamida committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan over a family feud at night. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital. A case was filed in this connection.
One killed in road accident
A woman was killed as a rashly driven truck ran over her at Salna on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Gazipur city on Monday morning. Identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Sub-inspector of Nawjor highway police camp Mojammel Hossain said a Dhaka-bound speeding truck ran over the unidentified woman in the area in the morning, leaving her dead on the spot. Police recovered the body and sent it to Gazipur Shahid Taj Uddin Ahmad Medical Collehe Hospital morgue for autopsy.    
Primary school teachers programme postponed
Bangladesh Govt Primary School Teachers Association has postponed its programme scheduled to be held on May 25 to implement five-point demands.
Leaders of association postponed their programmes after a fruitful discussion with Primary and Mass Education Minister Mostafizur Rahman at his office here on Saturday, an official release said on Sunday.
