A court in Gazipur on Sunday awarded four men to death for killing a fish trader Mokshed Ali Sentu at Tongi in Gazipur.
The judge of Gazipur district and session judge court (first court) Mohammed Fazle Elahi Bhuiyan handed down the verdict.
The convicted were identified as Mohammed Rubel alias Tiger Rubel, 35, son of Mohammed Jahangir of Ershad Nagar area of Tongi in Gazipur, Babu, 32, son of Abdur Rouf, Ashraf Ali, 31, son of Kalu Mia of same area and Soleman, 31, son of late Abul Hossain of Aouchpara area of Tongi.
Additional public prosecutor of Gazipur judge court Mohammed Mokbul Hossain Kajol said local criminals of Tongi area wanted extortion to Mokshed Ali Sento, a fish trader of the area. On January 27 in 2006, he was hacked to death by criminals while returning home after selling fish from local market.
Deceased father Mohammed Ali filed a case with Tongi police station in this connection. Later, police arrested the convicted men from different areas of Tongi. After examining all records and witnesses, the judge passed the order of death sentence and also fined Tk 10,000 to each convicted for murder.
On the other hand, the judge also gave 14 years of imprisonment for each and fined Tk 10,000 for extortion charge.
