While the fast bowling coach Heath Streak remained silent and didn’t contact Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) following the news surfaced out that he is keen for Indian National Academy job, the board is looking for new coach to replace him.
The BCB had already made a list consisting seven or eight coaches—amongst whom Aaqib Javed, Champika Ramanayake, Chaminda Vaas and Venkatesh Prasad are prominent.
Streak’s 450-day contract with BCB is all set to expire in June but the board cleared their intention to retain him along with head coach Chandika Hathurusingha given his outstanding job with Bangladesh’s fast bowlers.
In April he was released to join IPL franchise Gujarat Lions but BCB is sure that he would comeback after the tournament. However it is circulated through media that Zimbabwe-born Streak dropped his application to be coach of the Indian National Cricket Academy.
In the wake of the situation BCB was reluctant to keep its finger crossed. Cricket Operation Chairman Akram Khan said they have thought some possible options to replace Streak if he finally decides not to continue with them.
“We wanted to keep him with the team in a bid to not break the settled unit of the coaching staffs. But we’ll not hold him if he wishes to go,” Akram Khan told The Independent.
“We’ve to go for option if he doest not want to stay here. He is yet to contact us despite knowing that we are eager to retain him. So we’ve prepared a possible list of seven-to-eight man. Of them, Aaqib Javed, Champaka Ramanayake, Chaminda Vass and Venkatesh Prasad are prominent. It will be better for us if we could bring any of them,” he added.
“But we didn’t propose anyone yet as Streak did not inform us formally anything about his departure. We’ll take our decision after we get a clear picture about Streak’s intention.”
The former skipper also said that they will extend the contract of the head coach and strength and conditioning coach Mario Villavarayen which will be approved in the next board meeting.
“We’ve talked to head coach Chandika Hathurusingha. He is now out of the country will return to Dhaka by the end of this month to pen his deal with the additional remuneration,” Akram informed.
“Along with that, we’ll also extend the contractual period with Mario Villavarayen, who is also out of Dhaka,” he added.
