Putting emphasis on increasing allocation in education sector, Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique yesterday said educated population is the highest defense for the country, reports BSS.
“We’ve the necessity of defense sector, but if there is no educated population and skilled working force, we could not get better defense system,” he said at a day-long shadow-budget discussion.
Parliamentary Caucus on National Planning and Budget (PCNPB) and DU Centre on Budget and Policy organised the discussion at Nabab Nawab Ali Senate Building, said a release.
Arefin Siddique said now the government has taken decision to restructure the primary education system, but the Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman through forming Qudrat-e-Khuda Education Commission had laid emphasis on education.
He advocated for the higher education and training for the teachers of primary school.
Chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on ministry of finance Dr Abdur Razzaque, PCNPB vice-president Kazi Rozi, MP and general secretary Nazmul Huq Prodhan, MP, and planning commission member Dr Shamshul Alam, among others, spoke on the occasion.
Dr Abdur Razzaque said there is no alternative to raising budgetary allocation but rural areas have to be also taken into consideration. He said citizen of the country has to pay tax regularly to get a welfare budget.
