Foreigner among 3 killed in factory fire

At least three persons, including a Pakistani citizen, were killed, and 10 others injured, in a devastating fire at the storehouse of Mom Tex, a textile mill at Panchdona in the district’s Narsingdi Sadar upazila, at around 6.30am yesterday.
The deceased persons were identified as Ashique Ali (40), a Pakistani citizen, and Ramzan Ali (30) and Selim Mia (33), who were Bangladeshi nationals. All the three deceased were employees of Mom Tex, said the officer-in-charge (OC) of Narsingdi Sadar police station.
According to the Narsingdi Sadar police, the hospital, and the fire services department, the fire started with an electric short-circuit at the storehouse of Mom Tex. The fire spread to the entire store and 15 employees, who were working in the store at that time, sustained burn injuries.
Other members of the staff, local people, and the fire services team rushed to the spot. They rescued trapped employees and sent them to the Narsingdi Sadar hospital, where the attending doctor of the emergency department declared Ashique Ali and Ramzan Ali dead. The third victim, Selim, died while he was being taken to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). Five persons were referred to DMCH and the rest were admitted to another hospital, the OC of Narsingdi Sadar police station said.
On receiving information, 12 fire-fighters from Narsingdi, Madhabdi, Polash, Ghorashal, Shibpur, Monohardi and Araihazar rushed to the spot and managed to bring the fire under control after six hours of struggle.
Deputy commissioner of Narsingdi, Abu Hena Morshed Zaman, visited the spot after hearing about the fire.
