Awami League General Secretary and Public Administration Minister Syed Ashraful Islam yesterday said that in the area of disaster management, Bangladesh is now a role model for many countries across the world.
He was addressing a discussion meeting organized by Jatiya Sramik League at the party headquarters at Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital marking the party president Sheikh Hasina’s 35th Homecoming Day.
Syed Ashraf said Bangladesh is now well ahead of many countries in the field of natural disaster management due to the astute leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
During its tenure in 1991, the BNP government had failed miserably to manage the natural disaster and over 38,000 people got killed. But the Sheikh Hasina’s government had efficiently managed the massive flood in 1998, he added.
The minister also said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given necessary instructions from abroad to the authorities concerned over the cyclone Roanu. As a result, the number of causalities was less compared to previous calamities.
