The BNP yesterday asked party leaders and workers, and physicians to help people affected by cyclone Roanu.
“Party leaders and activists and physicians of DAB, I urge you to come forward to serve humanity. Assist the disaster affected people,” said standing committee member, Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain.
He was addressing a meeting at the National Press Club. The Doctors’ Association of Bangladesh (DAB), a pro-BNP doctors' platform, organised the meeting to mark the 35th death anniversary of party founder, the late president Ziaur Rahman.
The BNP leader called upon the government to make an all-out effort and assist the coastal people to save their lives and property.
He also accused the government of depriving the people of their voting rights, saying that the present government had come to power without votes. “Indeed, democracy is now on life support system in the intensive care unit (ICU),” he said.
The BNP leader recalled the contribution of Ziaur Rahman, particularly in introducing multi-party democracy in the country. He emphasised the need for restoration of democracy and urged people to follow the ideology of Ziaur Rahman.
Presided over by AKM Azizul Haque, president of the organisation, the meeting was also addressed by Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, secretary general of DAB, former lawmaker Dipen Dewan, and others.
