Among the four, Maskawat Hasan alias Sakib alias Abdullah, JMB operational commander of Rajshahi region, was arrested from Gobindaganj of Gaibandha district on Sunday night. On Monday, he confessed to his involvement in the killing before a Rajshahi court.
Police arrested the three other suspects, also JMB operatives, from the city on Monday night.
They were identified as Rahamatullah alias Shahin, a third year student of Crop Science and Technology dept of RU, and Abdus Sattar and his son Khairul Islam Ripon of Khorkhori area of Rajshahi city.
At a press conference at the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) headquarters yesterday, Commissioner Mohammad Shamsuddin said the four arrestees took part in the killing of Professor Siddiquee. “Of the four, three were directly involved in the attack while the other was waiting with a motorcycle. Abdullah took part in the killing while the others provided help and logistic support,” he said.
The police seized a motorcycle used during the killing operation, and two sharp weapons from the possession of the arrestees, the commissioner added.
