Drug addict kills friend
A street boy named Sani allegedly killed his friend by striking with a piece of brick on the head during an altercation in front of Salauddin Hospital at Wari in Old Dhaka city early yesterday.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Wari Police Station Mohammad Ziahad Hossain confirmed the incident.
He said, Al-Amin, 22, succumbed to his fatal injuries at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) after his friend Sani, 25, hit on his head with a piece of brick during an altercation in early yesterday.
Police arrested Sani after the incident. The body was sent to DMCH morgue for autopsy. The OC told BSS that both the friends were vagabonds and also drug addicts. Filing of a case is under process.
Teenager killed by lightning
A teenager was killed by thunderbolts in Zakiganj upazila of Sylhet district on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Naim Ahmed, 16, a student of class ten of Isamati High School in Zakiganj upazila.
Locals and family sources said Naim Ahmed received serious burn injuries in the lightning when he was working in the agricultural field on the bank of the Surma River near his home yesterday morning. He was rushed to Zakiganj Upazila Health Complex in a critical condition where on duty doctors declared him dead.
Fugitive convict arrested
A fugitive convict, sentenced to five years imprisonment, in a drug case was arrested from Madarpur area in Godagari upazila on Monday. The arrestee was identified as Ibrahim, 32, son of Ashraf Ali, a resident of the village.
Officer-in-charge of Godagari Police Station SM Abu Farhad said on secret information, a team of police conducted a drive in the area and arrested Ibrahim in the afternoon. Police also recovered 100grams of heroin from his possession. A case was filed in this connection.
Snatcher held with pistol
Chittagong Metropolitan Police in a drive arrested an alleged snatcher with an American-made pistol from citys Textile area under Akbar Shah thana early Monday.
The arrested was identified as Shah Jalal alias Jalal, son of Tonu Mia, hailing from Kahjuria area under Comilla district.
A team of Akbar Shah Thana police during routine duty held Jalal for his suspicious movement and recovered a seven-point-six-five pistol from his possession at Pahartali Textile area under Akbar Shah thana around 12-30am.
Police said Jalal was a member of an organised gang of snatchers. A case was filed in this connection.
