Private jute mill workers blockade road

Khulna: The workers of Khulna-based private jute mills blocked the Khulna-Jessore highway in Fulbaria gate area of the city on Tuesday morning during a demonstration to press home their nine-point demand, reports UNB.
The demonstrating workers put up barricade on the highway around 9am halting vehicular movement, said Maruf Hossain, officer-in-charge of Daulatpur Police Station.
Their demands include immediate payment of the outstanding salaries of the workers, re-opening the closed jute mills and stopping retrenchment of the workers.
Earlier last month, the workers threatened to continue their road blockade programme every day from 9am to 11am.
