Call to combat all sorts of violence

RAJSHAHI: Speakers at a workshop in Rajshahi city viewed all the youths should have vision, commitment and action so that the nation could be built as happy, prosperous and self-reliant within near future, reports BSS.
They observed the youth forces should come forward towards combating all sorts of violence especially sexual harassment against girls for ensuring safe educational institutions for them girls as it’s very vital for boosting skilled human resources coupled with women empowerment.
Technical Education Unit of Youth Ending Hunger organised the workshop styled “Vision, Commitment and Action” at Rajshahi Polytechnic Institute. The Hunger Project Bangladesh supported the event where some 36 students including 13 girls from different technical institutions in the city attended.
Youth leaders Jubaer Ahmed, Sojol Ahmed, Uzzal Hossain, Rafi Ahmed, Idrish Hossain, Farhad Mahmud and Ariful Islam conducted different sessions of the workshop as resource persons. Area Coordinator of the hunger project Subrata Kumar Paul took moderated the discussion.
The discussants observed that sexual harassment at public places restricts girls’ rights to education, rights to mobility and rights to freedom. So, the social crime must be uprooted through forging social movement. Gender-sensitive social mindset can help establishing rights of the adolescents through reducing violence and repression against them.
Subrata Kumar Paul said the initiative has been taken to engage the students towards democratic activities through their active and effective participation for strengthening capacity of professional skills.
There is no alternative to generate community leadership from among the students to take forward the nation successfully and that is very important to bring a qualitative change everywhere in the society.
Time has come to generate more and more students’ leadership in the society for making them time-fitting social actor to free the society from various crimes and malpractices like drug-addiction. Women participation in all the development process has become an urgent need for substantial and sustainable reduction of gender disparity, Mr Subrata Paul opined.
