RAJSHAHI: Rajshahi University Teachers’ Association (RUTA) on Tuesday called off their indefinite strike enforced protesting failure to arrest the killers of Prof AFM Rezaul Karim Siddiquee, reports UNB.
The RUTA announced the strike withdrawal at a press briefing in front of Juberi Bhaban around 11am, said Shah Azam Shantonu, general secretary of the association.
Earlier on Saturday, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan assured the striking teachers of bringing the killers of Prof Rezaul under speedy trial.
He was addressing a views exchange programme on Prof Rezaul murder at the university Senate Bhaban. Prof Rezaul Karim, 58, of the RU English Department, was killed by miscreants in the city’s Shalbagan area on April 23.
Ruta went on the nonstop strike on May 3 as the law enforcers failed to arrest the killers of Prof Rezaul within their seven days’ deadline, which they issued on April 25.
