The Barisal Education Board (BEB) has published fresh results for those 1,200 SSC candidates who had ‘failed’ the Hindu religious subject. Of them, 1,141 have now passed and 94 have scored GPA 5.
A student who committed suicide after learning that he had 'failed' the SSC had actually scored GPA 4.67, reveals the newly declared result.
BEB chairman Prof. M Ziaul Haque said they have identified those responsible for the fiasco. According to the BEB inquiry committee report, two head examiners of the Hindu religious subject were found to be responsible. Both of them will be punished, added Haque.
He explained that the two head examiners had submitted wrong answer sheets in the computer memory. They submitted the ‘ga’ set of answer sheets to the ‘kha’ slot. As a result, all 1,200 examinees of Hindu religious subject were ‘failed’. Later, the BEB authorities reset the 10,042 copies of Hindu religious subject answer sheets to the correct memory slot and published the fresh results within 72 hours.
Haque said the new results will be uploaded on www.educationboard.gov.bd.
The BEB declared the SSC result on May 11. It sparked a furore because several brilliant students, who had got A+ in the Hindu religious subject in their school tests, had apparently failed it in SSC. Adita Mondol, a student at Barisal Government Girls’ High School, fell sick after learning of the SSC result.
The most unfortunate incident was the suicide of Sarbojeet Ghosh Redoy, a student at Udayan High School in the city. He killed himself after learning that he had failed the Hindu religious subject. He had actually scored GPA 4.67.
His parents Shekhor Ghosh and Shanti Rani Ghosh refused to accept the result, asking the board to return their son. They said such negligent behaviour was akin to murder. They demanded the highest punishment for those responsible for the fiasco.
