Pakistan violated 1974 agreement: Law minister

Law Minister Anisul Huq yesterday said Pakistan violated the 1974 tripartite agreement as it did not take back their stranded citizens in Bangladesh, reports UNB.
The minister came up with the remarks while talking to reporters after a programme on ‘Budget Discussion of Law and Justice Division’ at Bilia Auditorium in the city’s Dhanmondi area.
Anisul Huq said people worldwide will denounce Pakistan’s activities over war criminal Nizami’s execution as they should not talk about the internal matter of Bangladesh.
He said there was no mention in the 1974 tripartite agreement that Bangladesh cannot execute the perpetrators of crimes against humanity conducted during the Liberation War in 1971.
As per the 1974 accord, the minister said, Pakistan was supposed to take its stranded citizens back but they have not accomplished the task yet.  “If any agreement is disobeyed, it becomes null and void.”
The minister said, “Those who have remarked that all crimes had been forgotten as per as the accord… I urge them to read the agreement. No agreement was singed in the past to forgive any criminal.”
Sought comments on Pakistan’s move to raise the issue of Nizami’s execution at the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) and with other countries, Anisul Huq said, “Our position is clear in this regard that the verdict against the crimes against humanity is our internal matter. We’re trying criminals under internationally recognised laws.”
