Federation Cup football is not going to run from today as the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) informed that they were forced to defer the tournament due to demands from most of the participating teams.
Earlier, the Federation Cup football was scheduled to kick off from today, as 34 players from different clubs are in the national team camp to play in the Asian Cup Pre-qualifying matches against Tajikistan, clubs requested the BFF to make a reschedule.
Bangladesh will play the Asian Cup Pre-qualifying matches on June 2 and seven at away and home ground respectively.
Due to these circumstances, it will not also possible to begin the Bangladesh Premier League in time from June 10, as the BFF decided earlier to begin but now it will also automatically be deferred.
Salam Murshedi, the chairman of the Professional Football League committee informed the reporters after a meeting yesterday that he had the meeting with the clubs’ representatives and most of the clubs did not agree to play the Federation Cup from today.
Salam said, “I have a meeting with the clubs’ representative, most of them did not want to play from tomorrow (today). They excused that as they will not get their key players in the camp regularly, so they want to play the tournament after Tajikstan matches.”
“We have no way but to agree with the clubs’ demands and we will decide to make an afresh schedule after the matches against the Tajikistan,” said Salam.
“Actually, we are also giving highest priority to the Asian Cup Pre-qualifying matches and considered the club’s requests,” Salam replied to a query.
