In a bid to sort out the potential swimmers from the grassroots of the country, Bangladesh Swimming Federation (BSF) in joint collaboration with Bangladesh Navy will organise the Swimmers Hunt Programme.
The competition will be held splitting into three phases. The first phase will be held from upazila to district level. But the second round and the final round will be held in Dhaka. Those, who will be selected from Dhaka at second phase and provided with a long-term training for their grooming.
The Chief of Naval Staff and BSF president Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed stated this at a press conference at Mirpur Sayed Nazrul Islam National Swimming Complex yesterday.
The five-month-long talent hunt competition will open with Dhaka phase on May 19 and end with Maulbibazar phase on October 2.
Public Administration minister Syed Ashraful Islam, MP is expected to inaugurate the competition in Dhaka on May 19.
“There will be four age group swimmers, including 11-12, 13-15, 15-17 and 18-18 plus in the competition. A total of 48 budding natants will be selected from each upazila and then a 10-20 swimmers will be chosen from each district. In this way, a total of 1,000 talented-swimmers will be culled from district level for the Dhaka phase,” said Nizamuddin.
“At the second phase, a total of 160 swimmers, out of 1000, will be chosen for the three-month-long intensive training by foreign trainer and awarded with medal, certificate and cash. Then a total of 60 swimmers amongst 160 will be picked up and rewarded also. Federation will bear the expenses of their education,” he also said.
“Finally the best eight natants, including female and male, from four age groups will be selected and awarded with Tk five lakh each,” he added.
A central committee has been formed comprising officials of Bangladesh Navy and BSF to run and finish the competition in a befitting manner. Naval Administrative Authority (Dhaka) Commodore Sayed Moksumul Hakim and BSF general secretary Ramiz Uddin Ramiz will work as chief co-coordinator and the assistant chief co-ordinator respectively.
“We’ve prepared a budget of six-to-seven crore taka to run and execute the programme successfully. We’ve kept Tk 65 lakh only for awards. S Alam Group, Max Group, Protik Group and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) extended their helping hands to organise the first-ever talent hunt swimming competition,” the Chief of Naval Staff told in response to a query.
About foreign coach Park Tae Goon, BSF president said, “We’ve taken the security of our foreign coach as the top priority. We’ll provide the security so that he can work without any problem.”
